Created by Jun Takahashi, UNDERCOVER embodies the Japanese culture of cool, bringing raw rebellious energy and dramatic elegance to a high concept style that captivates with its dualities. Takahashi founded the brand in 1990 while a student at Tokyo's Bunka Fashion Academy, avoiding the usual internships favored by young Japanese designers. This rebelliousness was reflected in his early punk-inspired work, which quickly found support and mentorship from Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons. With the motto “We make noise, not clothes,” UNDERCOVER uses unexpected combinations of materials, colors and styles to blur the lines between high and low, avant-garde and utilitarian, dark and beautiful. With a diverse and alluring creativity, UNDERCOVER creates its own coherently surreal world, which Takahashi continues to expand with each new collection.
